Layout, Design and Production
Design, layout and typesetting services are offered free of charge to any advertiser in The
Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News. However, many advertisers appreciate the
control they have over production and creative elements by producing documents
"press-ready."
Due to the fact that we are one of the few 100 percent electronically paginated newspapers
in the country, our requirements may differ from other papers.
Feel free to review any or all of the subjects below to assist you in the layout of your
ad. Click here to learn more
about how to write effective run of press ads. |
|
Proofs
The Newspaper Agency Corporation provides an advertisement proof and pickup service
at no additional charge. All advertisements coming into NAC can be scheduled for pickup
simply by calling your sales representative or assistant. Proofs are only delivered on
advertisements four column inches or larger and must be returned by proof deadline as
either "OK" or "with corrections." Call your sales representative or assistant to help you
with your proof should you have questions. Proofs are delivered Monday through Saturday
within the following boundaries:
East: Wasatch Boulevard; Olympus Cove; Bell Canyon.
West: Salt Lake County (approximately 9200 West).
North: South Gate at HAFB (State Road #193).
South: Salt Lake County (approximately 14200 South).

Laser and Mechanical Preparation
Laser scanners are used at NAC. These scanners do not pick up
the color red. Blue is visible to these laser lights, showing up as black.
Therefore, bluelith is required when masking out art. Also, red-lined grid sheets
(available from your salesperson) are required if you are laying out your own ads for
scanning.Any instructions, guidelines, templates etc., made on material to be scanned
should be done in red or on removable material such as a tissue overlay. |
|
Press-Ready Requirements
The requirements below are issued to assure best quality reproduction. We realize,
however, that it is not always possible to produce advertisements in negative form, in
which case velox form is acceptable.
- All full-page ads should be negative form (85 line screen, emulsion side down, right
read).
- All full-color ads, regardless of size, should be in negative form (85 line screen,
emulsion side down, right read). All full-color ads must have a color key.
- Any advertisement smaller than full page should be in velox form, (black and white paper
print) with the exception of full color.
- All color ads should be accompanied by a color proof or key.
Press Requirements
- 85 line screen
- Emulsion side down
- Right read
Halftone Dot Requirements
- 5 percent highlight dot
- 80 percent maximum shadow dot
