2004 Digital Ad Guidelines PDF File

NAC accepts press-ready disc ads created on Macintosh compatible systems that meet requirements unique to NAC's network applications. Contact your sales representative for a copy of "Disk Ad Transfer Guidelines." The guidelines will cover first-time users, specifications, deadlines and information necessary to accept disc ads.

AdSEND - NAC is a fully equipped receivership for AdSEND transmissions. This service is provided from the customer through AdSEND to the Newspaper Agency Corporation for advertisements publishing in The Salt Lake Tribune or Deseret Morning News and will be limited to scheduled advertisements.

The Basics
  • Are you working on a Macintosh? We are able to accept only files that are saved in a Macintosh format. If you are working on a PC, the entire ad must be saved as a PDF to embed the fonts, since PC fonts are not compatible with our Macintosh systems. Another alternative is to save the file as an EPS with the fonts saved as outlines. Saving a file as an EPS does not embed or create artwork out of the fonts.

  • Is your file compatible with one of these programs?
Acrobat 4.0 (PDF with fonts embedded)
Quark Express 4.0 or less (include fonts and support artwork)
Adobe Illustrator 8.0 (save as EPS or PDF with fonts embedded)
Adobe Photoshop 4.0 (save as EPS or TIFF; watch for rasterized type)
*****We prefer PDF's to preserve the integrity of your ad.*****

  • Is your ad the right size? Our electronic pagination system requires precise measurements to 1/100 in. Click here for exact measurements.

  • Please set up all colors as process (CYMK) colors. Make sure that colors requested on the color reservation match the set-up on the ad. Process separate all colors. If you are sending in a PDF, please send a composite file, not separate plates. Art that is saved as RGB, JPEG, or EPS files with JPEG previews will not print correctly!

  • Keep the resolution small. The image resolution for a halftone image printing in the newspaper  is 170 dpi. Higher resolution will not improve your output quality for newsprint reproduction. In Quark Xpress, our line screen (lpi) is 85, and our resolution (dpi) is 1016.

Disks
  • Disks we are able to accept:
    Zip 100 Macintosh formatted
    CD ROM or photo CD
Jaz disk (1 or 2 GB)
    3.5" Diskettes

  • Include all support files and fonts with Quark Documents. Please make sure all the files for placed images and fonts are included with your disk. It is the account's responsibility to provide a set of properly licensed fonts used in the ad. All of the original support images (EPS or TIFF) must be sent in for each ad. Art saved in any other format will not translate correctly to our proprietary system.

Web Based Submission of Ads Guidelines view PDF File

The Newspaper Agency Corporation is capable of accepting camera-ready advertising via internet submission. Deadlines for internet submitted ads are the same as for ads submitted on disk - 24 hours in advance of the camera-ready deadline. For deadline information, please consult your sales representative. Due to the volume of ads that are submitted via the internet, please follow these guidelines:

  • Formats.
    -
PDF with fonts embedded preferred to help maintain the integrity of your ad.
    - TIFF or EPS with fonts saved as outlines.
    - QuarkXPress - Quark document, support artwork, and fonts MUST be saved in one compressed, self-extracting file.

  • Submission. Click here to submit your ad via the internet. If this is your first time to the submission area, you will need to create an account. This is easily done by pressing the "Click here to create a new account" box located under the log-in form. If you are a returning client, simply enter your log-on information.

You will be taken to the advertising information page. Please be sure to complete this form in its entirety to ensure your advertisement will print as desired.

After uploading and confirming your ad is in our database, press the "Submit Ad Instructions" button. You will receive a confirmation page showing that your ad was successfully submitted. An e-mail will be sent to you confirming your successful upload, and verify your ad is in our system.

You will only be able to upload one ad per submission.

  • Revised Ads. The account is responsible for contacting the sales representative in the event of a revised ad. Revisions will not be accepted without notification by the sales representative.
